After a spectacular first season in Melbourne, The Wedding Singer – The Musical is finally coming to Sydney this summer.
The Wedding Singer – The Musical arrives in Sydney to perform at the State Theater from January 6, 2022, following its Australian premiere in 2021 in Melbourne. Based on the film of the same name starring Adam Sandler, the musical is a love letter to the 1980s, with big hair, ruffles, and lots of neon lighting. For those in need of a refresh, the plot revolves around wedding singer Robbie Hart (played by the “particularly remarkable “ Christian Charisiou), who is left at the altar of his own wedding, only to find himself in love with waitress Julia Sullivan (Teagan Wouters, Kinky Boots the Musical). The problem is that Julia is engaged to Glen Gulia (Stephen Mahy, one of the first Jersey Boys).
Producer David Venn has highlighted how difficult the past 18 months have been for the performing arts industry, but he’s thrilled to have The wedding singer back on stage. “We’ve had to cancel and reschedule shows, make some incredibly quick decisions to move cast and crew across the country and think more times than we can count. After all of that, I feel incredibly lucky to announce these new season dates and I couldn’t be more excited to welcome audiences back to the theater. “
“It’s a testament to our amazing actors and creatives, that we’ve had such a phenomenal response to the show and are able to continue the tour. We look forward to providing a night of total ’80s fun to help chase away those locking blues. “
If you can’t wait for the 1980s musical extravagance, the production is also calling on those who are locked out to perform and post their best ’80s dance outfits and moves online for a chance to win awards. tickets for the opening night, plus drinks with the cast. You will need to tag @weddingsingerau and #weddingsingerau to participate in the race.
