UL Homecoming starts today

Homecoming 2021 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette began today, as everyone prepares for the clash between the Louisiana Ragin ‘Cajuns and the Texas State Bobcats at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 30. at Cajun Field.

A cheering rally, a treasure hunt, a fashion show, decoration contests and a parade are some of the activities and events that the University Program Board and the UL Lafayette Alumni Association will organize for students and alumni. The theme of Homecoming 2021 is “Our Identity. Our Fire. Our heritage.

During the Paint your pride [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] window painting event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, student organizations will splash the windows of the UL Lafayette Student Union with displays of spirit and pride.

A Scavenger hunt on campus [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] will start at noon on Sunday and end at the same time on Friday, October 29. Based on clues that will be posted on social media, students will roam the campus alone or in teams in search of hidden objects. Those who find the most success will win UPC prizes.

Later Sunday the Ragin ‘Rock and Bowl [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] will be held from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Rock ‘n’ Bowl in Lafayette, 905 Jefferson St. Participants will enjoy bowling, refreshments and camaraderie. Registration is $ 25 per person.

On Monday, October 25, a Neighborhood party for reunion [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the UL Lafayette Alumni Center, 600 E. St. Mary Blvd. The boulevard will be closed to traffic between McKinley and Taft streets. Food trucks will sell meals and pop-up vendors will offer products at reduced prices.

UPC will be giving away free vanilla, chocolate and red velvet cupcakes, while they last, as part of its Cupcakes gift [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the porch of the student union. Participants can meet members of the Homecoming Court.

Monday evening, Flame March Parade [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] will take place at 7 p.m. at the Cajundome Convention Center. Students participating in the event will model the clothes they have designed and created.

Tuesday October 26, both days “Paint the town red” [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net]the competition begins, with businesses and schools decorating their interiors and exteriors in vermilion and white. The judges will select the winners from a range of categories. They will be visiting the companies from 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The schools part of the competition will be virtual.

Later Tuesday, quarrel on campus [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net]will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Fletcher Hall auditorium. Teams of students will test their knowledge against each other in a quiz-bowl style competition.

On Wednesday October 27, Wear Red, Get Fed Event, and Campus Cupboard Food Drive [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Quadrangle. Participants wearing Louisiana Ragin ‘Cajuns clothing can have a free lunch. In return, they are asked to donate non-perishable foodstuffs to the University. That evening the “Cajuns are talented” [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net]The competition for UL Lafayette students will take place at 6 p.m. in the Student Union ballroom. Students will sing and dance, perform karaoke, and display other talents in the popular contest. The public is invited to attend the free event.

The Scream Like Hell Pep Rally [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, at the Student Union Porch near Cypress Lake. Members of the Homecoming Court, cheerleaders and the Louisiana Ragin ‘Jazz dance team will be in attendance.

On Friday October 29, activities include a tennis tournament [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] at the Red Lerille Health and Snowshoe Club and the Bill Bass Open Golf Tournament. The tennis tournament will start at 8 a.m. and the golf tournament will start at 1 p.m.

Later today, the Alumni Association will host the Golden Ambassador Society Dinner [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] at 5:30 p.m. at the Petroleum Club in Lafayette. Former graduates for at least 50 years can register to attend the dinner, which will be followed by music and dancing.

Also on Friday, the “National Pan-Hellenic Greek Expo” will be held at 7:30 pm at the Cajundome Convention Center. Brotherhood and sisterhood members will perform during the step show.

On Reunion Day, Saturday, October 30, the Transportation Services Office will provide a shuttle service to students and alumni who wish to park on campus and travel to Cajun Field. Runners will be picked up and dropped off outside the Students Union on McKinley Street. A shuttle service will be available from 8:00 a.m. until one hour after the end of the match.

Game day activities will begin at 8:00 a.m., when University fans gather for food and refreshments at the alumni welcome tent [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net]. It will be installed near the large oak tree between Russo Park and Cajun Field. The cost is $ 15 per person; entry is free for Loyalty Fund donors who have contributed $ 50 or more.

The Reunion day parade [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net] drive at 8:30 am from Blackham Coliseum, head north on Cajundome Boulevard and enter Cajun Field at Reinhardt Drive. The procession will circle Cajun Field before exiting on Bertrand Drive.

That night, the Christiana Smith African-American Alumni Chapter will celebrate her Sweet sounds of sharing [u12097671.ct.sendgrid.net]. Proceeds from the reception will be donated to the Christiana Smith Scholarship Fund. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Angelle Hall and a reception will follow at the Alumni Center.

Reunion parade | The annual reunion parade starts at the Blackham Coliseum at 8:30 a.m. and descends Cajundome Boulevard, transforms into the Cajun Field parking lot in Reinhardt, and loops around the stadium to the oak tree before passing the Alumni Tent.
