RMD, others ready for a musical drama

veteran actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, aka RMD; and actor, producer and creative director of Rivers of Water Production, Patrick Otoro, are set to unify Nigerians with a musical stage drama titled “One Good Man”.

Otoro, who is the director of the musical dance drama, revealed this during a briefing to reporters in Abuja, according to the Nigeria News Agency.

He said the drama is in 13 parts and will showcase the Nigerian diversity, unity and peaceful co-existence of the people.

Otoro said, “Many years ago, students used to eat chicken at school; tuition fees have never been an issue; we used to have good lecturers who were willing to teach and impart knowledge to students, where are those days?

“Before, we had good hospitals and good roads. When we were growing up, nobody wanted to know if you were Muslim or Christian, Hausa or Igbo?

“We used to coexist without any perceived difference. I remember when I was a little South-South boy growing up in the North; when I slept in my Muslim brother’s house, his parents carried me in their arms to my parents’ house.

He said he wanted the good old days to return and the musical drama would reveal the good man who would take the nation back to the good old days.

“We want those days to come back. So the question is, who is this good man who will lead us to the Promised Land? This is what stage musical drama wants to achieve,” Otoro added.

Speaking on the essence of drama, he said, “I think musical drama will help us to effectively express the diversity of Nigeria on stage with music, costumes and cuisine. Most of the songs we use are Nigerian songs.

According to him, the musical drama has around 13 songs with creative dances, featuring different tribes in the country and is led by a dynamic choreographer, “Elevator”.

Otoro said RMD would play Baba Tega, the main character’s father.

The musical stage drama will be presented to the public on November 12-13 during the NAF conference in Abuja.

Speaking on the upcoming general elections, he advised citizens to vote wisely, saying, “In summary, our story is that of contemporary Nigeria. You know we are in election season where politicians are now campaigning and calling on Nigerians to elect them to power.

“So we are telling Nigerians to vote wisely. The electorate should choose the right. Who is this good man we will vote for? It’s in our hands; we can change our history; this is the story we want to tell.

While appreciating those who worked on the project, Otoro said, “I thank RMD and the other cast and crew members. They worked very hard on this project. Nigerians should vote wisely from President to Chairpersons of Local Governments.
