‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Ready for Engagement at the Fox Theater in Atlanta |

ATLANTA – After critically acclaimed sold-out engagements in the UK, the reimagined 50th anniversary tour of “Jesus Christ Superstar” will perform at the Fox Theater in Atlanta April 19-24 as part of the 40th anniversary season from Broadway to Atlanta. The award-winning production Olivier 2017 from the Regent’s Park Open Air Theater goes on sale to the general public on December 10. Aaron LaVigne runs the show as Jesus, joined by James T. Justis as Judas and Jenna Rubaii as Mary. The tour also features Alvin Crawford as Caiphas, Tommy Sherlock as Pilate and Tyce Green as Annas. Pepe Nufrio returns to the tour as a vigil for Jesus and Judas.

Set includes David Andre, Sara Andreas, Courtney Arango, Wesley J. Barnes, Milena J. Comeau, Lydia Ruth Dawson, Derek Ferguson, Brian Golub, Brittany Rose Hammond, Garfield Hammonds, Quiana Holmes, Darrell T. Joe, Sheila Jones , Jacob Lacopo, Paul Louis Lessard, Eric A. Lewis, Tommy McDowell, Danny McHugh, Jenny Mollet, Sarah Parker, Erick Patrick, Sandy Redd, Cooper Stanton and Chelsea Williams.

With lyrics and music from Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award-winning Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, this iconic musical’s North American tour is led by acclaimed director Timothy Sheader and cutting-edge choreographer Drew McOnie. . The creative team is rounded out with set and costume design by 2016 Tony Award nominee Tom Scutt, lighting design by Lee Curran, sound design by Keith Caggiano and Nick Lidster, with musical supervision by Tom Deering and North American music supervisor David Holcenberg.

“Jesus Christ Superstar” takes place against the backdrop of a series of extraordinary events during the final weeks of Jesus Christ’s life, as seen through the eyes of Judas. Reflecting the rock roots that defined a generation, the legendary score includes “I don’t know how to love it”, “Gethsemane” and “Superstar”.

“Superstar” is a proven musical phenomenon with a fan base around the world. As NBC’s “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert” demonstrated, this epic work attracted over 9.6 million viewers, achieved the highest ratings in its period, and received the highest critical rating of all live music events on network television. On September 17th, a variety of special edition “Jesus Christ Superstar” albums, remastered at Abbey Road, were released. These Anniversary Special Editions are a celebration of the original 1970 double concept album and its continued success spanning an incredible 50 years.

Regent’s Park Open Air Theater production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Coverage, with two consecutive engagements in 2016 and 2017. The production performed a West End engagement at the Barbican in 2019 before to return to the Regent’s Park Open Théâtre de l’Air in concert version during the summer of 2020.

The “Superstar” North American tour is produced by Stephen Gabriel and Work Light Productions and will have traveled to over 50 cities during its three years. The original production was produced by the Regent’s Park Open Air Theater in London.
