After a disastrous show on September 25 in Detroit, Michigan, Dance Gavin Dance announced that longtime drummer Matt Mingus will be leaving the tour and entering an inpatient rehabilitation center to deal with his addiction issues. His drum technician, Dakota Sammons, will serve as a replacement for the remainder of the band’s headlining US tour.
Before this announcement, for which the group issued a official statement on social media and explained the situation, Dance Gavin Dance posted a short message (September 26) and acknowledged the problematic Detroit gig where Mingus was in a condition that made him unable to perform up to everyone’s expectations.
The band opted, on stage, to let Sammons play the drums for the rest of the night instead of abruptly ending the show.
Yesterday (September 26), Dance Gavin Dance offered more clarity and revealed that Mingus would be going to rehab and expressed support for their bandmate. âMatt is and always has been an integral part of Dance Gavin Dance. He’s our brother and his health and well-being will always be our number one priority,â wrote the band, who are on tour in support of the concert. last year. Post-combustion save.

Loudwire wishes Matt Mingus all the best and hopes he can return to the squad in full health soon.

Following the events of our show in Detroit on Saturday, we wanted to share some additional information with our fans. Matt unfortunately struggles with substance use issues. Matt, along with the group and our team, decided that the best course of action was for him to immediately go to an inpatient rehabilitation center to allow him to recover. Matt is and always has been an integral part of Dance Gavin Dance. He is our brother and his health and well-being will always be our first priority.
Our drum technician, Dakota Sammons, will be filling in, with Matt’s blessing, for the remainder of this tour. We look forward to seeing Matt, fit and healthy, back on the road with us once he is fully recovered.
As everyone knows, the pandemic has been exceptionally hard on everyone, but especially on musicians and touring crews. Being back on the road and sharing our music with our amazing fans again after such a long period of emotional and financial uncertainty has been such a gift. So many fans have reached out to us to tell us about the catharsis these âAfterburnerâ shows have provided, after the incredibly trying 18 months we have all just experienced. We all need this. Dance Gavin Dance is no stranger to adversity, but our amazing and unique bond that we share with our fans means we always win. It won’t be any different. We very much appreciate your love and support and we know you will join us in sending Matt lots of love and wishes for a speedy recovery.
On the next show.
