Indiana’s Wampler Works construction crews have been busy installing playground equipment for Rietz Park this week. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on October 1.

Band to play at UM

The 60 members and seven sidekicks of the St. Joseph High School Marching Band will participate in High School Band Day in Ann Arbor on Saturday, when the University of Michigan plays Nebraska to open the 1962 football stadium at Michigan Stadium. Band manager Robert Meyers said two buses would leave from St. Joseph’s, one a charter bus and the other the Filer City school bus. One bus is due to leave at 1 a.m. Saturday and the other at 2 a.m.

Forest Festival Plans

A meeting of the Manistee National Forest Festival Association will be held at 7 p.m. at the Manistee County Board of Commerce office. Plans for the 1963 celebration will be launched and all who are interested are asked to attend, as early planning ensures the continued success of the community event marking Manistee’s summer season.

Dedication

A military service flag for the communities of Bear Lake and Pleasanton will be unveiled Monday evening at 8 p.m. at Bear Lake High School by the American Legion Auxiliary. All local legionaries and members of the auxiliary are invited to attend.

Vaccination for schools

Beginning September 28, rural schools in this neighborhood will be offered diphtheria vaccination for all students under 10 years of age. Tuberculosis patch testing for eighth graders and vaccines are available for anyone who wants them, according to the Manistee-Benzie Health Unit. A health inspection of rural schools will also be carried out.
